Christopher Mulrooney: poem
SHOWTIME
behold I see those shows
and I sit thee behind wheelchairs
and mysteries behind closed doors
I couldn't answer better myself
in this music above closed doors
in the light above the door
of the green room
I walk beside those blackly lights
in those green shows of dressing rooms
the puff balls and paint brushes
creams and waxes
wigs and hair pieces thrown
over the costumes haphazardly
sweat
schedules itineraries rosters protocols
disordered catchpurses carryalls
makeup boxes sewing gear
gambols and gambits
I hear the lights hissing and sinking
or rising with a thump
and the grand gesture consummated
you make
