T. Kilgore Splake: two poems

COCAINE STOCKBOY

high school memories past

Friday night football cheers

weekend Saturday "keggers"

cap gown pomp circumstance

"rest we rust" class motto

varsity letter jacket

ragged stained

iga "lifer" unloading

stacking cartons

tagging soups soaps cereals

pregnant wife tiny apartment

nursing bruised black eye

"I love you" angers

infant daughter flu-dreck

diaper pail ammonia stink

nascar glories fading dreams

steady monotonous "rut"

tomorrows repeating yesterdays

deserted "bust" town

empty stores junk cars

jungle crabgrass growth

searching life from television

silent painful realization

"you don't exist"

piece of shit rusty tranny

ominous expensive whine

Friday payday Monday rent due

after work couple of "cold-uns"

good looking women

riding tall stools

"happy hour" loud juke

oregano pizza aromas

others having money

no kids debts worries

sad loser

boozy thought hitting the road

brave new world

beyond shit town limits

perpetual adolescent

grown too comfortable

sinking drowning slowly

claustrophobic nothingness

just too tired

for escape.

COCAINE LIBRARIAN

eat your veggies

stern severity

"good nazi

everything in its place"

rigid mentality

mother-wife sometime poet

chilly tightly wound coiffure

lacking emotional warmth

traprock "sunnydale" acres

BURBS house beautiful

garage sales "shoppertainments"

buying emotional reassurance

writing poems without soul

golden byzantiums

alabaster walls

close friends praisings

"I love it"

editors not publishing

denying growth fearing change

exploring the unexpected

chasing wildass dreams

envious coveting

"artistic" life

creative persona

she

will

never know.
