Lower Standards
This is a day William Stafford
spoke of. Nothing significant.
But just a glance out the window
shows morning busy. Squirrels
hurry across space on two wires,
one above the other, and multiple flits
of black angle and dip through sky,
slice it up. But I think of papers,
floors, walls dingy with old paint
and chaos hungry at the horizon.
Some wisdom is recommending
a No, and I seek a master
to tell me how to lay these bricks.
